“The Museum of Ghosts”

(by Olesya Samoilenko)

It was the best weekend in my life. My friends from Kharkov decided to visit St. Petersburg. I met them at the railway station. It was 4p.m. but the Russian Museum (we decided to visit it first) closes at 6 p.m.
When we came to the museum there were practically no people. Then we went through huge halls of the Russian museum… There were a lot of beautiful pictures.
To my mind the Russian Museum is the best museum in St. Petersburg. So, my friends (Alex and Mikel) were very surprised, because they had never seen such an excellent collection of pictures. There was nobody in museum, even old women, who always sit in each hall. In two hours we decided to go home, but we had got a small problem. The problem was that we had lost the way. At first we laughed a lot. We started to look for some indexes, which could help us to find the exit. But we didn't find anything. After an hour of searching, we began to worry, because it was 7 p.m. and the museum had already closed. Suddenly the light turned off. It was very dark and though the moon was shining brightly in the window, we couldn't find the exit.
Suddenly Mikel and I understood that we didn't see Alex. We started to call him, but we didn't hear the answer. We looked at pictures, but they were very terrifying. Suddenly I heard a rustle behind me. I thought it was Alex, but when I turned at the sound I didn't see him, I saw a ghost from one of the pictures. The ghost was really scary. It hadn't got legs, but it had got a grey and very long beard. I couldn't shout. I heard Mikel's scream, then I don't remember how, but we found the exit. Near the exit we saw Alex, he was terrified too.
When we went out of the museum Alex told us what he had seen. In one of the halls two men were fighting on swords, but then they saw him and started to chase him. The pursuit was very long, Alex stumbled and fell down. Then both ghosts looked at him and began to laugh very loudly. Alex said that their laughter was really frightening. In a minute the ghosts vanished. Alex understood that he was near exit. When we went out of the museum it was half past nine.

I think we won’t forget the feeling we had when we saw ghosts. It was the best weekend in me life. And now I call the Russian museum “The Museum of Ghosts”!
